Create a short, generation-ready shot list before making clips. Lock the video goal and visual rules, divide the script or narration into edit beats, then give every shot a purpose, duration, framing, action, continuity reference, prompt, and transition note. Generate one shot at a time, compare it with its card and neighboring shots, and revise the prompt or reference before assembling the sequence.

- Visual direction: Define the overall setting, color treatment, lighting mood, and style.
- Recurring elements: List the character, product, logo, wardrobe, location, or props that must remain recognizable.
- Audio plan: Decide whether the sequence follows narration, dialogue, music beats, sound effects, or on-screen text.
- Editing rhythm: Choose whether the video should feel fast, calm, explanatory, dramatic, or playful.
These are planning decisions, not guarantees that a generation model will reproduce every detail exactly. Their value is practical: they make prompts clearer, reveal continuity risks early, and give you a standard for accepting or rejecting each clip.
Break the Idea Into Edit Beats

Do not ask a generator to create an entire finished story in one vague request. Instead, divide your source material-script, voiceover, concept, or image sequence-into small beats.
A beat is a single moment that changes the viewer's understanding. It might introduce a product, show a problem, reveal a result, or deliver a call to action.
For a short product video, the beats could be:
- Show the problem.
- Introduce the product.
- Demonstrate the key benefit.
- End on the product and message.
Each beat may need one shot or several shots. Create a new card when the purpose, framing, location, action, or audio emphasis changes. If a card requires a character to enter a room, pick up an object, react emotionally, and transition into a close-up, it probably contains too much. Split it into simpler shots with one primary action each.
For timing, start by assigning rough durations rather than treating every clip equally. A quick reaction or product detail may need only a brief moment, while an explanation or visual reveal may need more room. Once the total planned duration is close to your target runtime, you have a useful estimate of how many clips to generate.
Build a Generation-Ready Shot Card
A storyboard becomes useful for AI video when it records both creative intent and generation instructions. Use the following fields for every shot.
A text-to-video prompt can describe camera movement, character actions, lighting, emotion, and scene composition. Treat those details as requests rather than exact controls: the prompt should communicate the shot's priority, not overload the model with competing instructions.
A useful prompt order is:
subject + primary action + setting + framing/camera direction + lighting/style + essential continuity detail

The most important details come first: the product, its action or state, the setting, and the required label orientation. Avoid adding unrelated camera moves, multiple locations, conflicting moods, or several actions to the same prompt.

The narration might say, "A small change can simplify the everyday routine." The shots do not need to illustrate every word literally. They need to support the message in a sequence that is clear when edited together.
Plan Continuity Before You Generate
Separate generations can change character likeness, lighting, and background details between clips. A cohesive sequence may require iterative prompting, reference images, and manual assembly rather than a single pass. Define What Must Stay Consistent

- Product: color, material, label placement, proportions, packaging, and orientation.
- Location: room layout, major objects, time of day, weather, and background activity.
- Lighting and color: light direction, brightness, warmth, contrast, and palette.
- Style: realistic, illustrated, commercial, cinematic, minimal, or another visual treatment.
- Motion: direction of travel, hand position, gaze direction, and the action that begins or ends the shot.
Use a reference image or key visual when the subject is central to the sequence. A character sheet can establish a recurring person. A product key visual can lock the preferred product angle and branding. An establishing image can clarify a location before you generate several shots inside it.
Where an image-to-video workflow accepts them, static assets such as logos, product photos, and reference illustrations can also be useful starting material. Still, treat them as continuity aids, not proof that every generated frame will match.
Design the Handoff Between Shots
A cut feels more intentional when neighboring cards share something: a direction, object, color, sound, or action.
Plan one of these handoffs for every boundary:
- Action match: End one shot with a hand reaching toward an object; begin the next with the hand completing the movement.
- Direction match: Keep a walking subject moving in the same screen direction across the cut.
- Object match: End on a product in a medium shot, then cut to a close-up of the same product orientation.
- Sound bridge: Start narration or a sound effect slightly before the visual cut, then carry it into the next shot.
- Color or shape match: Cut from a circular product lid to a circular graphic or a similar visual element.
- Intentional contrast: Use a deliberate hard cut when the point is surprise, comparison, or change.
Reserve a clean start and end moment in each shot card. Avoid relying on a clip that begins mid-action or ends after the important movement has already passed. If you need a transition, plan it as an edit choice rather than assuming the generated clips will blend automatically. A consistent transition approach across multiple clips can help support the handoff you designed.
Review Each Clip Against Its Card
Generate and evaluate shots in sequence whenever possible. This makes it easier to spot a mismatch before it spreads into later cards.
For each candidate clip, ask:
- Does it serve the shot's purpose? If it looks good but does not communicate the beat, reject it.
- Is the primary subject correct? Check likeness, product details, wardrobe, label visibility, and key props.
- Does the visible action match the card? Confirm that the intended action is clear and finishes in usable time.
- Does the framing support the edit? Make sure the subject has the placement and screen direction needed for the next cut.
- Does motion hold up? Review pans, tilts, and tracking movement for smoothness and for distortion of the subject or background.
- Does it match the visual brief? Compare lighting, composition, and style with the continuity bible.
- Does audio align? Check narration, dialogue, music, sound effects, and visible action for synchronization.
When a clip fails, keep the storyboard purpose intact and change only the part that caused the problem.
- Revise the prompt when the framing, action, light, or composition is wrong.
- Strengthen the reference when the product, character, or setting drifts.
- Simplify the action when the shot asks for too many movements at once.
- Use a local correction where available when one element is wrong but the rest of the clip works.
- Replace the shot design when the original idea is too complex to generate reliably.
